The Mallampati Shot
Classifying the Resting Airway
As a dental professional, it is our job to screen for oral illness, as well as systemic diseases, and possible airway complications. There are many ways to perform all of these screenings and the fact that we are looking for abnormalities is what is important.
Best Care In the Boat
McCreight Progressive Dentistry strives to give our clients the best possible care. That care means that we are comprehensive in all of our screenings, especially when it comes to possible airway issues or sleep apnea.
As a client of MPD there is no doubt that you have had a comprehensive set of photos taken (at least once). In that set of photos we always take a picture of the air way. This is called a Mallampati shot, it helps us to look at your resting airway by classifying the airway. We are also able to see the tonsils and classify them as well (All vital components of the airway screening). Some of the things we look for in our airway screening is chronically swollen tonsils, tongue posture, and sleeping habits. After all, it is said that 85% of the population has some form of sleep apnea and of that only 13% are actually diagnosed.
If this is something that is concerning to you about yourself, your spouse, or your child, please do not hesitate to call for an appointment today.
