With a focus on progression and a knack for perfection, McCreight Progressive Dentistry provides both comprehensive and cosmetic dental care in the Yampa Valley. Since 1998, proud owners James and Wendy McCreight have owned and operated a dental practice in the valley, first in Craig and then in Steamboat. In 2007, McCreight Progressive Dentistry became the new name of their practice, highlighting their progression in the industry. Focusing on the adult population, McCreight Progressive Dentistry is committed to “solving dental problems, from the simple to the complex, using the latest technology and techniques,” explains Dr. Jim.
As one might assume, Drs. Jim and Wendy met in dental school at the University of Iowa. Dr. Jim is a native of Iowa who served in the Navy Dental Corps for three years while Dr. Wendy, a native of Colorado, was finishing up her dental degree. During their time together at the University of Iowa, Dr. Jim had a Colorado flag hanging on his apartment wall, and once Dr. Wendy saw it, she knew they were simply meant to be. They have been married for 28 years and together have daughter Hannah (23) and son Jackson (16), along with their very tight-knit work family at McCreight Progressive Dentistry.
Celebrating 25 years of service and business ownership in 2023, Drs. Jim and Wendy lead a very dedicated and highly educated team that is committed to lifelong learning and providing consistent, top-tier care. “We vow to be our authentic selves to develop a lasting relationship with you, our client. We believe integrity, challenging the status quo and price transparency are key to providing the very best for you,” says Dr. Wendy.
In keeping with this business philosophy, McCreight Progressive Dentistry promises what they call a “High Five in Ten.” As Dr. Jim explains, the focus is the continued service beyond the initial sale. Through a collaborative effort and a sense of loyalty that can be unique to this industry, McCreight Progressive Dentistry looks forward to giving their loyal clients a high five in 10 years, celebrating top-notch oral health.
In addition to comprehensive dental care, for the past 12 years, McCreight Progressive Dentistry has offered facial esthetics including BOTOX and filler as part of their cosmetic dental practice, adding the so-called “picture frame” to the smile. More recently, they have added both an esthetician and cosmetologist to their team to provide facials, derma planning, micro-needling and brow tints, to name a few.
With loyal team members who have opportunities to professionally grow, McCreight Progressive Dentistry works very closely as a team to provide top-tier customer service and an overall amazing experience for every client. As Dr. Wendy explains, “We understand that with dentistry comes a level of fear of the unknown, or fear based on experience, and we are here to change that. We work hard at providing a soothing environment while in the office and want that experience to carry over after you leave through follow-up and follow-through. Our goal is to provide a win-win experience.”
Providing a win-win experience transcends beyond just the client. Drs. Jim and Wendy founded the McCreight Smile Foundation in 2006 to help local victims of domestic violence. Administered through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, the McCreight Smile Foundation helps victims regain their dignity and confidence through cosmetic dentistry.
Both Drs. Jim and Wendy have always enjoyed working intricately with their hands and connecting with people, which transitions well to dentistry. Dr. Jim reflects on how he became more interested in cosmetic dentistry when he witnessed the emotional impact a healthy smile can have on an individual. Dr. Wendy recounts that she enjoys “the immediate gratification of helping someone feel better whether it is through a smile enhancement, relieving pain or simply making someone feel at ease in a sometimes stressful setting.”
Beyond the intricate dentistry work, the McCreight Progressive Dentistry team enjoys personally connecting with their clients. “Developing a relationship with our clients is for me the absolute best part of my job,” explains Dr. Wendy. “I love hearing about their families, their trips, their pets. Our clients become our friends and that inspires me to do my very best for them every single time!”
